Alice James Award

AJB is accepting full-length poetry manuscripts postmarked or via Submittable until October 17. Entrants must reside in the US. Additional manuscripts may also be chosen for publication as the Editor’s Choice.

2025 University of New Orleans Press Publishing Lab Prize

The Publishing Laboratory at the University of New Orleans seeks to bring innovative publicity and broad distribution to authors. This prize seeks full-length works of fiction (novels and short story collections).

The Iowa Short Fiction Award

The Iowa Short Fiction Award is an annual prize awarded to a collection of stories. Writers who have yet to publish a book-length volume of fiction are eligible to apply, and winning manuscripts are published by the Iowa Press.

Prize: Publication under standard royalty agreement

Oxford Flash Fiction Prize

The Oxford Flash Fiction Prize celebrates flash fiction, encouraging new voices and showcasing creativity in under one thousand words. This biannual competition is open to international writers.

Oxford Poetry Prize

Oxford Poetry awards the annual Oxford Poetry Prize for a single poem in the English language.

Dogwood Literary Awards

Three prizes of $1,000 each and publication in Dogwood are given annually for a poem, a short story, and an essay.

Summer Short Story Award for New Writers

Since 2016, The Masters Review has paired emerging writers with some of the industry’s top literary agents. They welcome submissions of previously unpublished fiction or creative nonfiction for the prize of $3,000, publication, and agency review.

ASF Translation Awards

The American-Scandinavian Foundation annually awards four translation prizes for outstanding translations of poetry, fiction, drama, or literary prose written by a twentieth- or twenty-first-century Nordic author.

Santa Fe Writers Project 2025 Awards Program

A prize of $1,500 and publication by the Santa Fe Writers Project is given to a book of fiction or creative nonfiction.

The Lascaux Prize in Creative Nonfiction

The Lascaux Prize in Creative Nonfiction seeks submissions of creative nonfiction, which includes memoirs, chronicles, personal essays, humorous perspectives, literary journalism—anything the author has witnessed, experienced, or discovered.

Tom Howard/Margaret Reid Poetry Contest

The twenty-third annual Tom Howard/Margaret Reid Poetry Contest will award one poem for the Tom Howard Poetry Prize and one poem for the Margaret Reid Prize. There will be $12,000 total in prizes.
