The 2025 Whiting Creative Nonfiction Grant of $40,000 will be awarded to as many as ten writers in the process of completing a book-length work of deeply researched and imaginatively composed nonfiction for a general adult readership.

For the 2025 prize, the Autumn House staff, as well as select outsider readers, serve as the preliminary readers, and the final judge is May-lee Chai. The winner will receive book publication, a $1,000 honorarium, and a $1,500 travel/publicity grant to promote their book.
